Hi all it's been a long time that I have posted anything but trying to keep busy and going Is hard work one of my last posts was getting a new car well I have got it not the sports car the wife said no so a 4/4 in the hope of seeing a lot more of this great country. One question someone may be able to help me with is for the last four months I have been short of breath I have now been to about three doctors about this and now I have been given three inhalers what with the mxt and other tablets I think I must rattle and now with the inhalers I feel like a walking medicine cabinet, could it be the mxt is anybody else getting short of breath after taking mxt for a few years and what other course of action could the rummy Doc put me on.

Hi John, Congrats on the new car, 4x4 will be much easier to get into than a sports car so good choice.
Yes it could be the methotrexate causing the shortness of breath but if the inhalers are not working, you must go back to the rhyeumy or GP, I don't want to worry you and its probably unlikey, but you need to have your heart checked as RA can affect the heart. As I say this is quite rare but Lynn who used to post on here had months of breathlessness and it turned out to be her heart.
Get it checked John, if for no other reason than to rule this out as the cause.
Best wishes
Sheila

Hi John. It's a well known fact that mix can affect the lungs, and I am surprised you haven't been sent for an X-ray. As Sheilasays, it could be heart related but could just as easily be asthma or allergy. I would ask for an appointment with a cardiologist and see what your GP's response is. Glad you like the 4 x4. We have a Qashqui crossover and love it. Steve was all for a Mazda 5 but if I managed to get in one, I'd be stuck in it for life!

Hello John

I belong to a patient group at my hospital we meet and discuss how from a patient point of view the Rheumatology department could be run better. Must admit I really can't fault mine. Anyway we did an RA Awareness Event end of May, for a week we took it in turns to sit at a table with lots of info about RA. While I was there a lady came to speak to us who had just had an appointment in the RA clinic. She told them that she was getting breathless. She was told to stop taking her MTX and was booked in later that day for a lung function test.

If I was you I would contact my specialist nurse to see what they say. Four months is a long time to be breathless, you really must like Sheila and Jean have said get it checked out.

We've just had a new car, well a nearly new car, five months old. I did post a while back on another thread that if we did change our car I would want an automatic, well my lovely husband gave in to my request and we've got one. I have a go faster pedal and a stop quick pedal, no gears, no handbrake to do when I stop, it is just like driving a dodgem car.LOL

Thanks to you all your advice is ok as far as I am concerned I had a lung function test not the best test I must admit but I put it down to blowing to many balloons up for my grand kids, had the old ticker checked out and touch wood it is ok, it looks like i will have a scan on my chest and lungs so i am hoping for the best, I have got to see the rummy in August so it may be good news if he has all of the reports back, I have a qashqai 360 and it is a beauty the only thing it will not do is make coffee but I am working on it, off to Cornwall next month and after that hoping to see Yorkshire dales and have a few pints on the way, once again thanks to all for your advice and if you see an old boy with a crossover with a hat the wrong way round it's me!!! Keep on trucking

Hope you have a great time in Cornwall and also God"s own county! Keep enjoying the Qashqai-absolutely the best car we have ever had; low fuel consumption, comfort, good high driving position and a joy to access for people with dodgy joints! Oh, in fairness, we loved our Maxda 5 4 x 4 too, but it was way more expensive than the Qashqai. Have fun and enjoy driving
